This wine has a brilliant deep ruby-red robe with dark garnet tones and elegant notes of ripe red fruit, sweet spices and dark chocolate. Alcanta Crianza is made from low yield vineyards which offer small berries with a perfect balance of sugar and polyphenols. Maceration and fermentation take place separately for the two varieties in stainless steel tanks for 15-20 days at 75-78ºF. When the weather has not been ideal, several delestages are carried out in order to extract more colour and the seeds are removed if they are not mature enough. The two varieties age separately for minimum 12 months in American and French oak barrels and up to 24 months between barrel and bottle.
Our vineyards lay in chalky slopes of low fertility with well oriented loamy-sandy soils, which retain humidity well but do not get flooded easily despite their poor composition of active limestone. The Tempranillo plots are more than 15 years old, trellised and irrigated in the hot summers. The Monastrell vines are over 30 years old which is arranged in bushed vines and not irrigated.
This wine pairs well with wild game, red meat, cheese and traditional Mediterranean cooking. Preferably serve this wine at 62ºF.
